Women In Trucking Association Names Nicole Glenn the 2022 Distinguished Woman in Logistics

APRIL 7, 2022 – SAN DIEGO, CA – The Women In Trucking Association (WIT), Truckstop.com and Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) announced today, Nicole Glenn, president and CEO, Candor Expedite, as the winner of the eighth annual Distinguished Woman in Logistics Award (DWLA).

Glenn was chosen among four finalists for the award. The other finalists include LeAnne Coulter, vice president, freight management for Penske Logistics; Erin Gattis, chief human resources officer, ArcBest; and Kim Littlejohn, senior vice president and chief information officer, USA Truck. The finalists and winner were recognized today during the 2022 TIA Capital Ideas Conference and Exhibition.

“Nicole is truly a distinguished woman in logistics, and we are proud to recognize her for this honor,” said Ellen Voie, president and CEO, WIT. “She has demonstrated remarkable business growth at the helm of Candor Express and we look forward to her continued success in the coming years.”

Glenn founded Candor Expedite in 2017 after more than two decades in the transportation brokerage business, with a vision to build the smartest and most efficient freight business that delivers on its promises. Today, Candor is recognized as a leading certified women-owned business headquartered in Texas – with offices in Illinois and Kansas. Logistics is in Glenn’s DNA having held several operational positions for a variety of transportation brokerage companies over the years. Through these roles, she learned the nuts and bolts of moving freight along with the biggest challenges both shippers and carriers face each day.

“TIA was again impressed with the caliber of candidates for the Distinguished Women in Logistics Award.  The four finalists reflect the best attributes of the 3PL professional: competence, pragmatism, and commitment to serving customers in the right way,” said Anne Reinke, president and CEO, TIA. “Nicole Glenn has all of those attributes, plus a history of persevering and succeeding through adversity.  We are fortunate to have these women in the logistics profession.”

In 2008, Glenn moved to the sales side of the business, working her way up to president of K & L Freight Management, Inc., and in 2016 became head of Cherry Logistics Corporation. After 20+ years of working for others, she wanted to build her own team. With her strong network and excellent industry reputation, it wasn’t long before Candor became one of the top transportation companies in the business – known for its hot shot ground, high touch, time sensitive shipments and white glove delivery services.

Glenn credits her success with an amazing team that consistently provides superior customer service, real-time updates, precision, and open communication. She is a certified member of The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), The Expedite Association of North America, WIT, and TIA. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in management and marketing from Northwood University.

“Nicole, LeAnne, Erin and Kim have all taken their respective companies to new heights and each exemplify excellence in the freight transportation industry,” said Kendra Tucker, CEO, Truckstop.com. “Nicole Glenn not only epitomizes what it means to be a distinguished women in logistics, but her commitment to better serving customers in the logistics industry is unsurpassed.”

Glenn has received numerous accolades including being named one of the Top Women-Owned Businesses by WIT, and a 2021 Enterprising Women of the Year Champion, an annual tribute to the world’s top female entrepreneurs. Additionally, she is one of the founders of The Ladies Leadership Coalition (LLC), a new podcast hosted by female business leaders to profile successful business women.

Members of the judging panel include: Brent Hutto, chief relationship officer, Truckstop.com; Anne Reinke, president and CEO, TIA; Dr. Stephanie S. Ivey, associate dean for research and professor, Herff College of Engineering; and Ellen Voie, president and CEO, WIT.

TIA’s Chris Burroughs Named UCR Board Subcommittee Chairman

MARCH 10, 2022 – ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA – The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), the voice of the third-party logistics (3PL) industry, announced today that TIA Vice President of Government Affairs Chris Burroughs has been selected to serve as the Chairman of the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Board of Directors Industry Advisory Subcommittee. Burroughs has served on the UCR Board of Directors since 2017 as the representative of the freight brokerage industry.

“Chris is a long-time member of the UCR Board and a well-respected voice on issues impacting the freight brokerage industry,” said TIA President & CEO Anne Reinke. “I am delighted that Chris has been recognized for his expertise and looking forward to his contributions to the Subcommittee and Board.”

“It is truly an honor to be selected to serve in this important role,” noted Burroughs. “I am ready to work with the other amazing board members representing key industry stakeholders on the UCR, to better the UCR program, and do our part to improve highway safety,”

The UCR Plan and the 41 states that participate in the UCR Agreement establish and collect fees from motor carriers, motor private carriers of property, freight brokers and forwarders, and leasing companies. The UCR Plan and Agreement are administered by a 15-member board of directors (UCR Board); 14 appointed from the participating States and the industry, plus the Deputy Administrator of FMCSA.

TIA Gives Full Support to C-TPAT Pilot Program Act

MARCH 2, 2022 – ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA – The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), the voice of the third-party logistics (3PL) industry, released the following statement following the House Homeland Security Committee’s bipartisan approval of H.R. 6826, the “C-TPAT Pilot Program Act of 2022.” TIA fully supports this legislation and applauds the Committee for its passage.

On behalf of the TIA and our almost 2,000 member companies, we are excited to have movement on a piece of legislation that is crucial to our membership base. This policy is common sense, long overdue, and should be quickly put on President Biden’s desk for signature.

“In the aftermath of 9/11, the Federal government, specifically the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) rightfully moved to harden our supply chain,” said TIA President & CEO Anne Reinke. “Unfortunately, during the implementation, TIA’s core membership was wrongly excluded from this program; H.R. 6826 will finally allow some of our members to be included.”

The problem is that non-asset-based 3PLs have been dealing with a competitive disadvantage for almost 20 years because of a willful decision by the Federal government excluding DOT-licensed property brokers. The legislation, which now has passed committee and is before the entire House of Representatives, creates a pilot program for 10 DOT-licensed property brokers and 10 warehouse entities to be C-TPAT certified to add value to the larger program.

TIA Vice President of Government Affairs Chris Burroughs further noted, “TIA is grateful for Representatives Slotkin, Miller-Meeks, Luria, and Womack for their leadership to address the issue that CBP created and start to change the status quo which has hurt 3PLs in their respective states.” TIA members are ready to get off the sideline and support C-TPAT with their enrollment. This legislation will increase jobs, increase business, and improve national security. H.R. 6826 is the companion bill to S. 2322, which passed unanimously in the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and awaits a vote on the Senate floor.

Biden Administration Enforces Cross-Border Vaccine Mandate

JANUARY 21, 2022 – ALEXANDRIA, VA – Today, the Biden Administration rolled out their vaccine mandate for non-U.S. citizen truck drivers entering the country. In a reversal of previous public statements, the Administration decided now is the best time to restrict the free-flowing movement of goods across the border, as the nation continues to face a global pandemic and a supply chain crisis. This comes on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on January 13, 2022, that the Administration’s mandate for vaccine requirement for companies over 100 employees, was unconstitutional. The truck driving profession in the United States, Mexico, or Canada does not differ in terms of the nature of the business and this new action runs contrary to previous positions and statements.

(TIA) President and CEO, Anne Reinke said this on the mandate, “Americans are struggling with higher prices and scarce goods, at the grocery store, the gas pump, and diners across the country. One way to make this drastically worse overnight is to take tens of thousands of truck drivers and forbid them from entering the country, leaving countless amounts of essential freight at the doorstep of our country.”

TIA and our members are uniquely positioned in the supply chain to drive the conversation and provide solutions regarding the supply chain and the current disruptions. TIA continues to be an advocate for truck drivers and we are calling for an end to these misguided policies towards truck drivers. This time, our cross-border friends are being harmed at a time when they are delivering essential services.

TIA represents almost 2,000 member companies, many of which service customers who utilize cross-border freight. Mr. Jim Damman of MODE Transportation serves as TIA’s Chairman of the Airfreight and International Logistics Committee, states, “You could not have selected a worse time to further restrict essential goods into the United States. We are facing a capacity crisis, compounded by skyrocketing demand and inflation. We need to be supporting our truck drivers, not adding insult to injury by mandating vaccines.”

TIA stands ready to work with the Administration to address the COVID-19 pandemic, but not at the expense of businesses throughout the United States and the overall economy.

TIA Staff Reaches 100% Completion Rate on Human Trafficking Certification Program

JANUARY 10, 2022 – ALEXANDRIA, VA – In recognition of January being National Slavery & Human Trafficking Prevention Month, Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), the voice of the third-party logistics (3PL) industry, announced today that 100% of staff successfully completed the Human Trafficking Certification Course offered by its partner, Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT).

“I am very proud of our entire team completing the Human Trafficking Certification program offered by TAT,” said TIA President & CEO Anne Reinke. “Human trafficking is a very serious problem that more people need to be trained about combating, and our industry is uniquely positioned to fight this problem and help better our communities. It is important that as many people as possible know how to identify signs of trafficking and where to report it. Hopefully, we can encourage all TIA Members to complete the certification by showing our commitment to the cause.”

The Human Trafficking Certification Course is complementary to all TIA Members as part of the partnership between TIA and TAT, and is available via the TIA Learning Portal. TIA Partners with Truckers Against Trafficking to Offer Members Access to Human Trafficking Certification Program

OCTOBER 21, 2021 – ALEXANDRIA, VA Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), the voice of the third-party logistics industry, announced today an exciting addition to the Association’s partnership with Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) during the Day 1 Closing Session at TIA’s 2021 3PLXTEND Conference, currently taking place in San Antonio, Texas.

The announcement was made by Mike Riccio, CTB, Chairman of the TIA Board of Directors and Chief Marketing Officer of Leonard’s Express, and Laura Cyrus, TAT’s Director of Corporate Engagement. TAT is now offering TIA Members complimentary access to the TAT Certification Program via the TIA Learning Management System as part of the growing partnership between the two groups. This training will take TIA Members through a 30-minute online training video that educates users on identifying clues as to when human trafficking may occur, where these crimes usually happen, and how TIA Members are uniquely positioned to help combat this problem in their communities.

Anne Reinke, Laura Cyrus & Mike Riccio

“We are grateful for TIA’s continued support of our mission and help in lighting pathways of engagement for their members to get acquainted with the TAT effort,” said Cyrus. “By completing the TAT training, not only will members and their employees begin to understand how they can recognize and report human trafficking should they ever suspect it, but they will also be able to make immediate connections to how their relationships with drivers, carriers, and shippers can be activated to help spread the word. Sharing about TAT on social media, including information about TAT and the National Human Trafficking Hotline on rate confirmation sheets, potentially incentivizing driver participation in the TAT training, and even sharing their involvement with TAT to shippers/manufacturers, are all ways TIA members can continue to help propel this mission forward. We are eager to work with additional 3PL organizations and assist them with activating their networks for social good and the fight against human trafficking in North America.”

TIA Members will become Truckers Against Trafficking Certified and receive a digital certificate showing their achievement upon completing the online training. TIA encourages all TIA Members to participate in this training for themselves and their employees and make it part of their annual training programs similar to other HR or operations training that they offer their employees virtually.

“When TIA first partnered with TAT back in April 2021, we wanted the relationship to be more than just financial support,” said Riccio. “We wanted a relationship that truly served the mission of TAT and that committed TIA as an industry leader to supporting the efforts to combat human trafficking. TIA is extremely excited about this new opportunity to be able to offer our members formalized training on identifying and combating human trafficking via the TAT Certification Program.”

TIA Members can register now for the Truckers Against Trafficking training and certification course.

TIA Statement on Passage of Bipartisan Infrastructure Package

MEDIA CONTACT:

[email protected]

AUGUST 10, 2021 – ALEXANDRIA, VA Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), the voice of the third-party logistics industry, issued the following statement in response to the Senate’s bipartisan passage of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill:

The United States Senate today passed the bipartisan surface transportation reauthorization bill on a 69-30 vote. Included in the final language passed by the Senate is $550 billion in needed funding for our traditional infrastructure projects, including money for roads, bridges, transit, Amtrak, and more.

“TIA is proud to support this bipartisan measure; the U.S. economy and supply chain deserve to have the best infrastructure and most robust surface transportation in the world,” noted Chris Burroughs, TIA Vice President of Government Affairs. “This legislation delivers on that goal, and with more the $11 billion dedicated to safety, TIA is proud to call upon the U.S. House of Representatives to pass this bill and for President Biden to sign it into law.”

Built into the legislation are three provisions TIA fully supports and is proud to present to its members. First, a provision that clarifies the role of a dispatch service in the supply chain. Second, language which asks for a full review of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Consumer Complaint Database and the subsequent action taken by the Federal Government. Included in this review is a mandate to include brokers in the process. Finally, a new apprenticeship pilot program for under 21-year-old drivers seeks to increase the carrier selection pool. This is a huge issue in the supply chain as the driver shortage continues to hamper transportation.

TIA applauds the work of the bipartisan group of U.S. Senators that put partisan politics aside and delivered on a surface transportation reauthorization that addresses our crumbling infrastructure and provides much-needed legislative clarity for the 3PL and freight brokerage industries.
